New York Institute of Fine Arts offers workshops study in original environment that supports the artistic journey of each student. A faculty of working artists lead courses and specialized workshops in painting, drawing, sculpture, new media, videography and photography, printmaking, mixed media, and art theory.

Figure Construction & Anatomy for Artists

This course will introduce students to the process of making igurative sculptures through perceptual skills dictated by conceptual knowledge. The course takes on the formidable task of organizing the complexity of the human body as a construction and creating igurative art that makes a dramatic and bold statement.
It is a journey through the human form withparticular attention directed to mass, volume, structure and principles of anatomy. Artists will explore design and anatomy secrets of the old masters and will be guided to develop a personal project, in which their individual needs will be considered. An introduction to sculpting tools, will be offered along with demonstrations and discussion. This course
is structured for beginners as well as artists with previous experience, and aims to provide a base in the necessary techniques of sculpture.
Open to all levels.

Watercolor for Beginners & Beyond

With demonstrations and individual attention, you will learn techniques of using the challenging, beautiful medium of watercolor. Starting with color mixing, and wash and glazing exercises, you will build confidence in your watercolor painting skills. Drawing experience is recommended but not essential. The fundamentals of drawing, the foundation of painting, will also be emphasized. Subjects will be still-life and plain air landscape. The class is particularly suited to beginners, but is appropriate for all levels. The first class will include a thorough discussion of materials and sources.

Beginning Drawing

7 p.m. – 10 p.m. | Studio 2
Gain a solid foundation in the fundamentals of drawing and the skills necessary to render a subject three-dimensionally. Explore observational techniques, composition, and various mediums through exercises using still life and eventually the model. This course is for beginners with little or no previous drawing
experience and is an excellent refresher for artists who want to review basic principles or improve their skill level with a particular drawing medium. The instructor will be present both days.
